What I Saw

It Felt Like Home

Monterrey was amazing! I was amazed by the colorful buildings and the renowned beautiful cathedrals scattered around the city. There were vendors stationed at almost every corner of the city, even inside the neighborhoods. So getting an ice treat or appetizer was only a few minutes walk!

The cathedrals are breathtaking.

I was moved by the people's energy and their enthusiasm to work both regular and odd jobs to make a wage.
(Here's a picture of the man dressed as a  "Live Tin Robot".)

The two pictures above were taken at Monterrey's famous market square.

Monterrey City

Monterrey City

Monterrey is a large city nestled in between large and beautiful mountains which overlook the region.
It is a busy city with thousands of pedestrians going about their business by foot for leisure, or to sell food and other items to earn money. People also take the mini bus or a taxi to for daily travel.

When we first arrived to San Nicolas de la Garza, a small town located just outside of Monterrey, the first thing I noticed was the motorists' lack of respect for the roads signs and road lanes.

I was praying we wouldn't get hit by a mini bus!

About 20 minutes into the traffic, I noticed a large arc monument getting closer to us. This was the entrance to the main city of Monterrey.

My Trip This Summer (2015)

Hi everyone,

My name is Yaridza Garza and I currently reside in Cypress, Texas. I am 22 years old, and I am currently a student at Lone Star College to get my transfer requirements done for the University of Houston.

(My school: http://www.lonestar.edu/cyfair.htm )

Over the summer, I decided to take 3 courses the for the first summer session. These courses ran from the first week of June to the second of July. It was a lot of work, but I made an "A" on each course. Yay!

All that work left me exhausted. So I decided to take a weekend trip to Mexico with my mom and her friend to a city name Monterrey, Nuevo Leon.

The 9-hur road trip did not bother me at all! It had been 6 years since I went down to Mexico, so I was very excited to see the familiar roads and all the culture there. Plus, the scenery was beautiful! The the rain showers that had occurred across the state of Nuevo Leon some days before had left the cerros, or mountains, looking lush and green.
